Online casinos create more problem gamblers

Since the development of internet made betting easier, the risk of becoming a problem gambler increased, with additional deviant sexual behavior and emotional difficulties, depression and a tendency towards cross addictions, mainly drugs, alcohol and sex abuse.

Problem gambling is also known as ludomania and is defined as an urge to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. Problem gambling harms not only the gambler but also their families.

Gambling is legal (the only exceptions are Utah and Hawaii), but along with drinking and smoking it is usually regarded as a “sin industry” although it is advertised as a form of entertainment. It is a recession resistant activity, because people addicted to gambling can not stop betting even in times of economic crisis. Internet gamblers are more likely to be unmarried and younger with lower education and income levels.
Internet gambling specialists say that systems already exist to watch closely for any signs of abnormal behavior, excess spending and other abnormalities at gamblers. Also, measures were in place to restrict the amount of money a customer can deposit and win, this making properly regulated and controlled internet gambling better than other forms of gambling.
